Police are trying to determine the identity of a body that was recovered earlier today from the Potomac River in Georgetown. A pair of kayakers found the body floating upstream from Key Bridge Boathouse (formerly known as Jack’s Boathouse) shortly after noon, a boathouse employee says.

The kayakers, who were not Key Bridge Boathouse customers, asked if they could dock for a bit, and after being granted permission, paddled back upstream to retrieve the body. Officer Anthony Clay, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department, says the man has not yet been identified.

But Linda Bowyer, an operational manager at Key Bridge Boathouse, says the person appeared to be an older Asian man, partially matching the description of a person reported missing last week. That individual was last seen fishing on the Potomac last Friday. According to a Reddit message left by a friend of the man’s grandson, police recovered his fishing equipment and cell phone, but found no trace of the man.
