Barren Girls are a North Carolina-based four-piece ready to dropkick the punks. The band made a big impression on Mac McCaughan while performing at Hopscotch Festival last year, and got signed to Merge Records. The band just released a four-song EP and are prepping a full-length out later this year. The EP is soaked in nostalgia like today’s song of the day, “She-Devil.” The organ-driven track sounds like Pat Benatar in a Hall of Mirrors in the desert. Carla Wolff’s vocals move from guttural howls to falsetto in a mere matter of seconds. The track is sure to be a highlight at the band’s D.C. gig this Saturday at Ghion.

Barren Girls play tomorrow night at Ghion as part of DC420. Tickets are $10 advance / $15 door.
