Douglas Development announced its latest acquisition in Chinatown, the mixed-use building at 700 Fifth Street NW. The four-story building, which was valued this year at $4.7 million, joins a Douglas portfolio that also includes considerable swaths of Chinatown and Penn Quarter including, of most recent fame, the building at 801 Seventh Street NW, which houses a bigger-than-average Walgreens.

Douglas bought the 10,000-square foot building from its primary occupant, the law firm Wingfield & Ginsburg, which following the sale leased back its three floors of office space. The building’s other tenant is a ground-floor Burger King, though anyone wanting a Whopper down in Chinatown had best get their orders in soon. In a press release announcing the sale, Douglas says Burger King will be out of the building once its lease expires early next year, to be replaced by a retailer that better suits the rest of Douglas’ neighborhood holdings.

The developer says that it will be looking for a retailer to complement its “trendy Chinatown restaurants” which include Graffiato, Legal Sea Foods, Sixth Engine, Matchbox, and the forthcoming NoPa, an Ashok Bajaj-run restaurant (and neighborhood name violator) set to take over the space formerly inhabited by the spy-themed bistro Zola.
