>> If and when the Silver Spring Transit Center ever opens for public use, it will not be operated by Metro, the transit agency told Montgomery County, The Washington Post reports. The $120 million, long-delayed concrete boondoggle needs to have much of its concrete and steel construction redone, which is not expected to begin until this summer. Montgomery County officials held a meeting with contractors who are working on the transit center yesterday, but Metro didn’t send anyone.

>> The District’s first Walmart store is months ahead of schedule, Housing Complex reports. The store, being built at First and H streets NW, will have 76,000 square feet of discount retail when it opens and is the most “urban” of the six stores the country’s largest retailer is planning on building in D.C. The store also anchors a mixed-use development being built by The JBG Companies.

>> Virginia is just leaving money on the table. According to the state Auditor of Public Accounts, Virginia failed to collect $170 million in court fees and fines a year, The Washington Examiner writes. The shortfall comes because officials neglect to collect about half the fines and fees issued to criminals and traffic violators.
