Police in Rockville are looking for a woman suspected of walking into a pet store earlier this month and making off with a Maltese puppy worth $1,200. But judging by the description offered by store employees, it’s uncertain whether the suspect in the April 12 theft is actually a dog person. Her neck is tattooed with a depiction of a cat.
Store employees described the suspect as a woman in her late 20s, about 5 feet 7 inches, 110 pounds, and, as an identifying mark, the cat tattoo. According to the Washington Post, no one in the store noticed anything was wrong until they noticed the puppy was gone:
But when the staff at Just Puppies in Rockville wasn’t looking, police say, the woman slipped the one-pound pooch into her purse and got away, free and clear, with a $1,200 Maltese.
“The puppy was so small, she fit right in,” said Jeanea Tobiasz, manager of the store.
Store employees also recounted the woman as friendly and eager to play with the unnamed female Maltese.
A security video released by Just Puppies, which true to its name sells nothing but purebred puppies, shows the woman playing with the puppy in a cubby in the middle of the store. The woman then appears to stash the tiny pooch in her purse and walk off. Rockville Police are asking anyone with information on the theft to call (240) 314-8938.
