The Olympia, Wash.-based bandGun Outfit is firmly planted in the late 80s and early 90s. Their breed of indie rock recalls the early days of Sonic Youth while sticking to their Pacific Northwest roots, such as band like the Wipers. Gun Outfit has been releasing records since 2009, and their latest record Hard Coming Down is their best, as evidenced in the song “Flyin’ Low Maria.” The track is handled by co-vocalist Carrie Keith, whose country-inflected voice can be mistaken for a that of a young Courtney Love, incidentally a onetime Washington State resident.
Gun Outfit plays tonight with Fell Types at the Black Cat. Tickets $12.
