Surfer Blood hit the scene with a 2010 debut that blew up fast. Like most Internet-hyped bands, all of the attention came on strong, and the band rode the wave for most of 2010 touring almost without pause. The band released an EP before going back into the studio with veteran producer Phil Ek. The resulting record, Pythons is set for release this June, and the band is currently on tour with Foalsand Blondfire. On Pythons, Surfer Blood builds on the pop-punk sounds of Astro-Coast, but adds a tinge of the Pixies, with whom they have previously toured, along with an enviable studio sheen. “Demon Dance” is the first track on the record and it is an immediate gem. The track reveals a more assured Surfer Blood. The guitars ring louder then before and the song fills out with Frank Black-style screams.

Surfer Blood plays with Foals and Blondfire this Sunday at the 9:30 Club. The show is sold out.
