Bryce Harper left the Nationals’ game last night against the Los Angeles Dodgers after a nasty run-in with an outfield scoreboard. Harper, playing right field last night, was attempting to chase down a fly ball off the bat of the Dodgers’ A.J. Ellis. For a moment, it seemed as though Harper, displaying his usual ferocity, would make the catch.
And then, Harper met the wall. He hit it at full speed, bounced off, and crumpled onto the warning track. The ball skittered away, leaving center fielder Denard Span to pick it up and throw it back in, but by that point, Ellis was standing on third base with a triple, and Harper was bleeding from the head.
Harper got up and walked off the field under his own power, but not before displaying a blood necklace thanks to a nasty cut on his chin. He received 11 stitches and also suffered a jammed shoulder. The Nationals went on to win the game, 6-2. Harper is listed as day-to-day.
