A cyclist was transported to a local hospital this morning with serious injuries after being struck by a car while riding along 11th Street NW. The rider, who was described as an adult male, was hit about 10:05 a.m. A Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman described the scene as a “major crash.”

The collision took place at the intersection of 11th and U streets NW. MPD did not say if the driver involved has been cited. The cyclist, who suffered “serious” bleeding, was unconscious, but breathing when he was taken to the hospital.

As a result of the collision, police have closed 11th Street between T and V streets NW, and U Street between 10th and 12th streets.
