The Social Security Administration has released a list of the most popular names given to babies born in D.C. last year, informing Washingtonians what names will commonly be screamed across playgrounds in the coming years.
The top four names for boys were William, Alexander, Henry and John. Sophia, Emma, Olivia and Charlotte topped the list for girls.
Number five on the XX chromosome side of the list brings the somewhat less common (hooray!) name Genesis, which was given to thirty four girls in 2012, followed by Sofia, Ava, Chloe, Madison and Zoe. James, Daniel, Benjamin, Samuel, David, and Jacob round out the boy’s list.
D.C. is experiencing booms of many kinds, including the baby variety. According to the Census Bureau, there have been 9,000 births in the District since 2008.
