A section of the Westfield Montgomery Mall parking garage collapsed Thursday afternoon, killing one person and trapping another, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.

A part of the parking deck under construction near the Macy’s entrance collapsed shortly before 2 p.m., a Montgomery County Police Department spokesperson said. Trauma response teams from the University of Maryland Medical Center have been deployed to the scene. Scott Graham, the executive officer of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, originally said on Twitter one person is trapped. He later said two construction workers were trapped under 50,000 pound section of the garage.

One person was killed, according to Graham. The other worker has life-threatening injuries.

Update: The other worker has been freed. While Graham reports that he was taken to a hospital in serious condition, he was well enough to give a thumbs up to NBC’s camera.

The Westfield Montgomery Mall is located in Bethesda, Md. on Democracy Blvd.
