E.W. Jackson, the extremely conservative pastor selected to be Republican Ken Cuccinelli’s running mate in the Virginia Governor’s race, made a completely normal campaign ad when running for a Senate seat in 2012 in which he destroys fruit with an ax. Just like all politicians!
Buzzfeed unearthed the old video in which Jackson takes a patriotically decorated ax from a man dressed in Colonial garb then destroys a watermelon representing the “Federal Budget.” He also chops a cantaloupe representing “unemployment.” Finally, another watermelon standing in for “Obamacare” gets the Gallagher treatment.
Jackson has been criticized for remarks he made comparing Planned Parenthood to the KKK, as well as saying LGBT people are “very sick people psychologically.”
The latest poll from Quinnipiac University showed Cuccinelli’s democratic opponent, Terry McAuliffe, with a slight lead. Cuccinelli’s campaign is now trying to paint McAuliffe as a Virginia outsider, the Post reports. No word on if McAuliffe’s campaign will paint Cuccinelli’s as unfriendly to melons.
