When Baltimore’s Double Dagger broke up, it was a big blow to the scene, so it is a huge relief that the members haven’t quit making music altogether. Denny Brown’s Roomrunner project was the first out and they are releasing an amazing debut record this week. Singer Nolan Strals also has a new band, Pure Junk, and they are playing their D.C. debut this Thursday, opening for The Thermals. Pure Junk, which also features members of Thee Lexington Arrows, haven’t recorded any music. But judging by a recording from the band’s first show last September, they are just as fiery and in-your-face as Double Dagger. The band’s track “Untitled” is a loud punk rock gut-punch. Strals is a perfect frontman, as he is able to slid between funny banter to a wreck-everything-in-his-path singer.
Pure Junk play Thursday with The Thermals and Hollywood at the Black Cat. Tickets are $15.
