Are you an artist who dreams of being discovered and thinks the entrance of a Metro station is the place where dreams come true? You’re in luck: Auditions for Metro’s Art in Transit Program, which allows performers to do their thing at Metrorail stations, will be held tonight.
Singers, dancers, musicians, poets and other performers should head to Metro headquarters at 600 Fifth St. NW at between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. tonight to audition for one of 15 available slots. Performances will take place between June and November at designated stations. Some artists may be selected to participate in the Music on the Mall program.
Last year, local music initiative Listen Local First complained that performers aren’t compensated for their Metro performance and are forbidden from selling merchandise and soliciting donations.
Indeed, that’s the case again this year, according to Metro’s performance guidelines. Other rules include only using a battery power amplifier and wearing “neat and clean attire.” So if you’re a performer who doesn’t require payment and enjoys dressing in a neat, clean way, head to tonight’s audition.
