Have you heard about cronuts? The delicious doughnut-croissant love child that has taken over Manhattan, leading jerks entrepreneurs to sell the pastry on Craigslist for eight times what it cost originally?

Now D.C. is officially a part of the tasty craze, as Chocolate Crust in the Brightwood neighborhood jumped on the bandwagon Monday. The bakery’s owners said they have created a “doissant,” made from a chocolate croissant base with hazelnut cream inside and a pistachio topping. (Chocolate Crust cannot legally call their pastry a cronut, as its creator, Dominique Ansel, trademarked the name.)

DCist spoke to many bakeries known for doughnuts in the D.C. area last week to find out if they would be attempting to cash in on the cronut mayhem. Some said they were experimenting with the idea, but none could say for sure that they would begin offering something similar.

Your DCist editors will taste Chocolate Crust’s doissant today (for journalism!) and report back.
