Michelle Obama was heckled during a fundraiser held at a Northwest Washington home Tuesday, an act she made known she did not appreciate.
According to a pool report, Obama was over halfway through a 20-minute speech when a heckler began yelling about gay rights.
“One of the things I don’t do well is this,” Obama said before leaving the lectern. She approached the heckler and said, “Listen to me or you can take the mic, but I’m leaving.” Obama then told the crowd, “You all decide. You have one choice.” The crowd cheered for the first lady.
The heckler, identified as Ellen Sturtz of the group GetEQUAL, told the Washington Post she “was taken aback” by Obama’s reaction. Sturtz, 56, who paid $500 to heckle Obama, said she asked the first lady to tell her husband to sign an executive order that would offer workplace protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.
