Eating at a national park is about to get healthier.
The National Park Service introduced the Healthy and Sustainable Food Program today, which will make healthier and more sustainable food available at concession stands at 75 parks nationwide. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell, NPS director Jonathan B. Jarvis and White House chef Sam Kass celebrated the launch of the program, which is tied to Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative, at the Lincoln Memorial this morning.
According to USA Today, new options include “lentil soup, bison hot dogs, grass-fed beef, black-bean sliders, fish tacos, fresh tomato soup and produce from local farms.” Don’t fret, lovers of junk food: Regular hot dogs and ice cream are safe.
D.C. is home to 23 National Parks, including the Washington Monument Grounds and Rock Creek Park.
