WEDNESDAY
The Bats are an influential New Zealand band that has been making off-kilter jangly pop since the 1980s and miraculously are still around. They’ve been through the area before but be sure not to miss their show tonight at DC9 with Dot Dash. 8 p.m., $12 in advance, $14 day of show
>> 9:30 Club: Tomahawk, Buke & Gase. 7 p.m. Tickets $27.
THURSDAY
The National and Dirty Projectors have been two of the most unlikely indie success stories of recent past. The first was unlikely due to having spent several years at seedy bars before a very understated album named Boxer brought them critical acclaim. Dirty Projectors were an unlikely breakthrough because many of Dave Longstreth’s earlier compositions had been unapologetically inaccessible, albeit brilliant, so the success of Bitte Orca was something of a surprise. Both will join forces tonight at Merriweather Post Pavilion 5:30 p.m. Tickets $35-$45.
>> Comet Ping Pong: The Tender Thrill, The El Reys, Departures. 9 p.m. $10
FRIDAY
Paperhaus has just released their second EP and returned from a two month long tour of the country. Welcome them home with their show at the Rock and Roll Hotel (where they started aforementioned two month tour) with Shark Week and Young Rapids. 9 p.m. $10
SATURDAY
For awhile it seemed like the Screaming Females were here once every two months but then Marissa Paternoster contracted mono and the loud rock band with the powerful riffs weren’t playing anywhere for anyone. But the trio is back tonight with Priests, Pygmy Lush, Cane & The Sticks and Jail Solidarity at St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopalian Church. 7 p.m. $8.
>> Sixth & I: Devendra Banhart & the Grogs, Rodrigo. 8 p.m. Tickets $25.
SUNDAY
We haven’t seen The Shirks play a local show since having done a set of tour diaries for us, but the garage rock band is giving us a chance at a place called Zeba at 3423 14th Street. Their support will be the Ar-Kaics and Bad Coyotes. 9 p.m. Free
Last time Margaret Chardiet came to the Black Cat, she played for a short amount of time for a small group of people but the brutal punishing electronic music made an impression on everyone who saw her. Now this project, Pharmakon is returning to the Black Cat on Sunday night. Lust for Youth and Body of Light open. 8 p.m. $12
>> Capitol Stage: Capital Pride Concert with Emeli Sande, Icona Pop, Cher Lloyd. 4 p.m. Free
>> 9:30 Club: Tricky. 10 p.m. Tickets $25.
>> Comet Ping Pong: Lenorable, Rogue Satellites, Sour Notes. 9 p.m. $10.
