As many turn their attention to raising funds for the fire-ravaged Frager’s hardware store, hundreds of charities are hoping Washingtonians will send some financial love their way today.

Do More 24, a project of the United Way of the National Capital Area, hopes to raise funds for charities in D.C. and surrounding communities during a 24-hour period. Fundraising began Thursday at midnight and was supposed to end tomorrow at the same time. But on Wednesday the campaign was extended by one day because of technical difficulties which slowed transaction speeds, the United Way said in a press release.

The United Way hopes to raise at least $2 million, according to the Post.

Nearly 300 charities in D.C. have registered, including AIDS United, the D.C. Education Fund and Martha’s Table Inc. Nearly 1,000 charities from D.C., Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County and Prince William County are participating. As of this morning, over $400,000 has been raised, with the Latino Economic Development Corporation receiving the most money thus far.

Beyond feeling good about yourself, there’s a transportation-related incentive to donating. Uber, a sponsor of the event, will give anyone who donates $24 or more $24 off their next ride. This is available to anyone who hasn’t used Uber before and to the first 1,000 existing Uber customers to donate.
