FRIDAY

PARTY: Brightest Young Things and National Geographic combine to mark 125 Years of Exploration. Come out to the National Geographic Society (1600 M Street NW) for access to the museum, lightning talks from Nat Geo Explorers, an interactive robotics demo, punches (of the alcoholic variety, we think) from around the world, comedy, music, and more. 8 p.m. Tickets $25.

ART FIGHT: Super Art Fight, modestly described as “the greatest live art competition in the known universe,” hits the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW) with a palette of performers creating art on-the-spot with all the gusto of a WWE pay-per-view special. BAW GAWD, THEY PAINTED HIM! 9:30 p.m. $15.

CLUSTERTRUCK: Miss the food trucks at today’s lunch rush. That’s OK. Twenty-six of them will be lined up at the Fairgrounds (Half and M streets SE) until 11 p.m. tonight. Come for the conveyance, stay for what will surely be a back-door rally about the food truck regulatory process.

TALK SHOW: Brandon Wetherbee’s talk show and podcast returns to Wonderland Ballroom (1101 Kenyon Street NW) after a few weeks off. (Editor’s note: Need to get a gift.) Tonight’s guests include Washington Post Express’ Holley Simmons, the comedian Adam Friedland, and music by Edie Sedgwick (they wear white). Begins 7:15 p.m. Free, but pass the hat and tip your waiter.

BOURBON: As noted in the Weekly Feed, today is National Bourbon Day, though really, bourbon should be celebrated every day. Several bars are running specials for the occasion, including Jack Rose Dining Saloon (2007 18th Street NW), which is offering a flight of Evan Williams bourbon whiskies for $19, and a more serious set of Elijah Craig quaffs for $55. Remember, it’s not bourbon unless it’s distilled from at least 51 percent corn and barrel-aged in Kentucky. And if you’re at a bar and you see Jack Daniel’s on the bourbon list, you’re probably at McFadden’s.

SATURDAY

SOAP BOX DERBY: Cheer on pint-sized speed demons in the 72nd annual Greater Washington Soap Box Derby this Saturday on Capitol Hill. 7 a.m. Free.

GO TRUCK YOURSELVES: Ever wanted to get your hands on a D.C. government vehicle? You can at the city’s annual Truck Touch event Saturday at RFK Stadium. Various city agencies, including the Department of Parks and Recreation, District Department of Transportation, D.C. Public Schools, Metropolitan Police Department, and Fire and Emergency Medical Services (whose fleet always has something going on), will have vehicles on display for viewing, though not driving. The display is part of the D.C. government’s One City Summer Kickoff, a launch event for summertime municipal services. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

DADSPIN: Drew Magary, the voluble Deadspin and Gawker contributor, reads from his parenting book Someone Could Get Hurt: A Memoir of Twenty-First-Century Parenthood at Politics and Prose (5015 Connecticut Avenue NW). A real-live funbag for all those new parents out there. At 6 p.m.

SUNDAY

RUN: Get fit with your dad at the Father’s Day 8K. Packet pickup at Georgetown Running Company (3401 M Street NW) from 2 p.m. Sunday, and the race starts at Potomac and Grace Streets NW from 5 p.m. Registration: $35 in advance, $40 day of.

MUSIC: The psychedelic Brooklyn sisters in Prince Rama, who produce enough flashing lights and pulsing noise to fill a large arena, return from a European tour with a set at The Dunes (1402 Meridian Place NW). The show also features a screening of Prince Rama’s concert film, Never Forever and a DJ set by Ian Svenonius. So, yeah, plan on getting to work late on Monday morning. At 6 p.m. $10.
