Trees in Washington, D.C. go through a lot. They’re destroyed by strong winds, have “No Parking” signs stapled on them and are urinated on by dogs (and sometimes humans.)
And now the trees on the U Street Corridor apparently must endure being gnawed on by grown men, as video first picked up by In the Capital shows.
The tree-chewing took place around 11 p.m. Wednesday in front of the U Street Music Hall, according to the video’s uploader, who noted the man seemed intoxicated.
“He approached the tree and proceeded to slap the it semi-sexually, like he was spanking it,” the uploader explained. “Then he really got in there and chewed the bark off the tree for about five minutes. He didn’t actually eat it, just chewed. Cops showed up, but they seemed just as confused as the rest of us. I think they told him to be on his way and that was that.”
And that was that, indeed.
