The chef and restaurateur Daniel Boulud is known more for his establishments in New York, Las Vegas, and Europe, but he is reportedly finalizing plans to open a place in D.C. While in Aspen, Colo. for a food and wine convention, Boulud told Eater that it is “unofficially official” that he will be opening an outpost of his DGBG Kitchen and Bar brasserie concept in Washington.

The restaurant will not be Boulud’s first culinary venture into D.C., though it will be his first in 30 years. Boulud, 58, first came to the United States in the 1980s as the private chef to the European Commission’s delegation. Boulud told Eater a new D.C. venture is long overdue:

Where is it going to be? Downtown DC. It should be fun. I started in America in DC, and I’m upset that it took me 30 years to go back. I’m looking forward to it very much. It’s exciting, I love DC, I’ve always loved DC. I just wanted to come to New York, and I got physically, happily stuck in New York.

The restaurant is likely to go in at CityCenterDC, the high-end development currently under construction in the middle of downtown D.C. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this year that Boulud is one of 60 retail tenants planning to open there.

Boulud opened his first DBGB restaurant 4, a few storefronts down from the location of the shuttered rock club CBGB. He recently announced plans to open a second location at the Venetian resort in Las Vegas.
