Are you prepared for eau du Hokie?
Virginia Tech is getting a signature smell, thanks to New York-based company Masik Collegiate Fragrances. WDBJ7 reports that a table was set up in the university’s bookstore last week, so students could vote on the best scent.
David Wilson is the associate director at the Virginia Tech Bookstore. Wilson says the idea of just the right scent, coming along at just the right time, makes sense. “Well I think it’s a great idea and somebody had a great idea I mean it’s something. Virginia Tech is a big brand. There’s lots of merchandise. This is something that up till now hasn’t been there.”
The fragrance should be available by August, just in time for proud parents to buy the smelly stuff while dropping off their kids.
Masik has already created fragrances for 11 universities, including the University of Georgia and Penn State University.
According to the company’s Web site, it uses the following characteristics to create the scent: “school colors, mascot spirit, traditions and history, landmarks and architectural style, campus trees and flowers, mission statements, college town character and themes in the alma mater and fight songs.” Penn State’s women’s perfume, for example, was inspired by “the iconic Blue and White, the Grace of Old Main and the Loyalty of the Nittany Lion.” This translates into the female student body smelling of sparkling cassis, raspberry blossom and white patchouli.
Virginia Tech’s colors are orange and maroon, while its mascot is the Hokie Bird and its motto is “That I May Serve.” What will this mean for the scent of university’s perfume and cologne? Citrus with a hint of turkey and alcohol?
