DOCUMENTARIES: The AFI Docs Film Festival, the documentary film series formerly known as Silverdocs, is back tonight, kicking off with a gala and screening of the film Letters to Jackie. 7:30 p.m. Gala and screening $75. For the rest of the festival, films $13 each or $100 for ten films.

OUTDOOR MOVIES: If you’re in the mood to watch a movie under the stars tonight, you have two to choose from. U Street Movie Series (Harrison Field, V Street NW between 13th and 14th streets) is showing Star Wars Uncut and NoMa Summer Screen presents The Goonies. Both outdoor events start at 7 p.m. and are free.

STORYTELLING: Those with a lot of drama in their lives also tend to have the best stories. Hear some stories about Drama! at Story League’s story tournament at Busboys and Poets (2021 14th Street NW) tonight. Guest host for the night is David Crabb, host of The Moth NYC, creator of Ask Me Stories, co-producer of Risk!, and an actor/storyteller/teacher extraordinaire. 9 p.m. Tickets: $15.

HAPPY HOUR: In advance of Washingtonian’s Best of Washington event (July 17), the magazine is throwing a Best of Washington Happy Hour at The Graham Hotel rooftop (1075 Thomas Jefferson Street NW) tonight. A $15 donation to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will grant you access, a complimentary drink, and hors d’oeuvres. There will also be an opportunity to purchase discounted tickets to the upcoming Best of Washington event. 6 p.m.
