A 17-year-old from Arlington is being charged with reckless driving in connection with an incident earlier this month that led to the death of a skateboarder who was hanging onto a pickup truck that the teen was driving.
John Malvar, 18, died June 4 after suffering severe head trauma when his attempt at “skitching”—skateboard parlance for riding a board while grabbing a moving vehicle—went terribly wrong. Malvar was briefly revived but then died at George Washington University Hospital.
The 17-year-old was charged yesterday on one count of reckless driving in Arlington County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. He was released to the custody of a parent, and will go on trial Aug. 8, according to the Arlington Police Department.
