NPR recently left its longtime digs in Mount Vernon Square for a fancy, new headquarters on North Capitol Street NE. While the radio network’s new home is a modern, glassy structure combining a gleaming, seven-story office tower and a rehabilitated early-20th-century warehouse full of tote bags and tiny desk concerts, what’s become of the old place?

Well, it’s being torn down. The building at 635 Massachusetts Avenue NW, a 211,000-square-foot office tower, is currently a razing site. Shefali Kulkarni, a freelance journalist, shared this image of the demolition in progress today.

Once cleared out, the lot will be the site of—what else—another office building. Boston Properties is developing the site, which, when constructed will be addressed 601 Massachusetts Avenue NW.
