In May 2012, President Obama influenced the D.C. sandwich industry when he dropped in to the 14th Street NW location of Taylor Gourmet and picked up a bag of hoagies. Well, next time he wants one of the D.C.-based chain’s Spruce Street sandwiches—turkey topped with prosciutto, roasted red peppers, and provolone—he won’t have to go even half that far. Heck, he probably doesn’t even need to get in the car.

Taylor Gourmet’s eighth location opens today at 11 a.m. at 1750 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, or as someone else will certainly term it, just a block and a half from the White House. The new store, Taylor’s sixth in the District, will be open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and weekends from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The last time Obama dropped in on Taylor Gourmet, on 14th Street, the company saw its sales spike and its social media presence explode. Perhaps if Obama were to visit this new store, say, before its doors open some morning, he might be able to convince Taylor to restore the breakfast menu.
