You may notice an increased police presence during your evening Metro commute today, but fear not, nothing bad is expected to go down.

The Metro Transit Police, along with other Washington metropolitan area law enforcement agencies are taking part in Blue TIDE, a “joint show-of-force security effort aimed at increasing partnership among law-enforcement agencies and deterring crime and potential terrorist activity.”

Though Metro says there are not any current terrorist threats against Metro or D.C., Blue TIDE (Terrorism Identification and Deterrence Effort), is merely a protocol initiative to ensure the safety of Metro riders, while reminding the public to keep an observant eye during their commute and report suspicious behavior to the Metro Transit Police.

With more than 50 officers from different law enforcement agencies participating in this evening’s activities, you can expect to see a number of security sweeps at Metro stations, as well as officers boarding random trains to look for suspicious activity. There will also be officers on hand to distribute crime prevention information to Metro riders.
