FRIDAY
BURLESQUE: The New York Grind Show brings burlesque to the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW) tonight. Shows at 8:45 and 11 p.m. $15
TALK SHOW: Brandon Wetherbee’s talk show and podcast, You, Me, Them, Everybody takes over the Wonderland Ballroom (1101 Kenyon Street NW) once again with a lineup of comedians and personalities you might not have heard of, but probably will want to know. Tonight’s guests include Natalie E. Illum, a champion poetry slammer; Nick Mullen, a comedian who has performed at South by Southwest and other stages; and Mariya Alexander, a D.C. comedian who cracks wise about her Soviet upbringing. Begins 7:30 p.m. Free, but tip your waiter and get home safe.
OUTDOOR MOVIE: The summer film series in the Rosslyn section of Arlington continues tonight with the 2010 Emma Stone comedy Easy A, the latest entry in its “Summer School” theme. At Gateway Park (1300 Lee Highway, Arlington). Begins at sundown.
AFI DOCS: The documentary film festival formerly known as Silverdocs continues through the Sunday at movie theaters and screening rooms throughout D.C. and Silver Spring. See Pat Padua’s recommendations for this year’s festival, including a portrait of the photojournalist Donald McCullin, and a brotherly tour diary starring The National.
SATURDAY
ART FESTIVAL: While the kickoff isn’t as big as last year’s inaugural edition, the second go-round of Lumen8 Anacostia is worth a trip across the river. The summer-long arts series begins anew with an all-day celebration at Anacostia Arts Center (1231 Good Hope Road SE) and other venues in the neighborhood, featuring visual arts, performance art, music, and food by Busboys and Poets. At 6 p.m., head for the Music Box (2235 Shannon Place SE), a former Metropolitan Police Department evidence storage facility, for a lineup including Black Masala, Eme & Heteru, and The Funk Ark. Begins 1 p.m. Free
BEER: On Tap magazine presents Can Jam at Kastles Stadium at The Wharf (800 Water Street SW). Come out for live music, over forty canned beers, food trucks, games, and more. Begins 1 p.m. Tickets: $35 for unlimited sampling.
MUSIC: Lemuria, a new indie pop group that’s partially based in D.C., uploaded its new album, The Distance Is So Big, to NPR Music last week. On Saturday, the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW) plays host to one of three release parties for the new LP—the others are in Buffalo, N.Y. and Austin, Texas—which is catchy, drone-y, bittersweet, and just plain enjoyable. Oh, and Chain and the Gang opens. At 9 p.m. $12.
