In a very good use of taxpayer money, an Ocean City, Md. councilmember has proposed an ordinance to get those darn kids, with their music and their backwards caps, to pull up their pants. Why? Because he’s thinking of the children, of course.
The ordinance was proposed by Councilmember Brent Ashley, who is a past president of the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce. WAMU has the story:
Ashley is asking his colleagues on the council to seriously consider this ordinance because he feels families with children should not be subjected to seeing someone’s backside, and his proposal would mirror a law recently passed in Wildwood, N.J. prohibiting pants from being worn lower than 3 inches from the waistline. The New Jersey law carries a $25 fine.
The Ocean City Council says it will discuss Ashley’s proposal in a few weeks.
Is $25 enough of a fine for showing one’s backside to a child? Is it too much trouble to bring back the stockades?
