Women of Congress and female journalists from the D.C. press corps will come together tonight for a chummy game of softball. In addition to providing a safe venue for the participating members of Congress to take out any aggression they have toward the press, the Congressional Women’s Softball Game benefits a cancer charity. Who can argue with that? (Probably some members of Congress.)
The $10 cost of admission goes to the Young Survival Coalition, which offers “resources, connections and outreach” to pre-menopausal women with breast cancer.
The Congressional team will be led by Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), and Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-Fla.), who underwent treatment for breast cancer in 2008. The leaders of the journalist team, named the Bad News Babes (ugh), are CNN’s Dana Bash, Politico’s Carrie Budoff Brown, CNN’s Brianna Keiler, CQ Roll Call’s Abby Livingston and Cook Political Report’s Amy Walter. The full roster can be seen here.
As expected, “funny” trash talk between the competitors has already begun.
