From the department of duh: D.C. is the third best city for living practically car-free, according to a website with a really unfortunate name.

The study from Credit Donkey (see!) used three factors to make this very unscientific ranking: percentage of people who commute to work using public transportation, commute times and gas prices. The first two factors were derived from Census data, and the third was formed using GasBuddy.com.

According to the site, 13.4 percent of commuters in D.C. use public transportation, the city’s average gas price is $3.78 and almost 57 percent of commuters spend more than 30 minutes in transit.

Only New York City and San Francisco boast a larger number of commuters who use public transportation.

The study did not include data about use of bikes and Capital Bikeshare, car-sharing services like Car2Go and taxi services including Uber. Factor those in and baby, you’ve got a car-free stew going.

So how many people in D.C. are actually living the car-free lifestyle? According to Census numbers crunched by the Coalition for Smarter Growth, 38 percent of households in D.C. were car-free as of 2010.
