Now that I.M.P Productions has officially been handed the reins to the Lincoln Theatre, it’s time to see who the 9:30 Club owners plan to bring to the U Street NW space. Mayor Vince Gray released the first slate of performers today, and it features four performers with guitars and one post-Britpop band.
The first five performers are:
Prices for tickets, which go on sale July 12, haven’t been released. But all the performers are currently on tour, so comparable ticket prices can be found. A ticket to Case’s upcoming show in San Diego costs $30, for example, while a Tunstall gig in Philadelphia in September will set a person back between $20 and $25 bucks.
“Coming out of the gate with five sought after artists demonstrates that I.M.P. is indeed beginning the revitalization of this important cultural asset,” Gray said in a news release.
I.M.P. Productions was awarded the city contract to the theater, once known as the jewel of “Black Broadway,” in April, but the announcement wasn’t made until last week. As DCist previously reported, residents asked the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities to give the theater to an operator who would book entertainers connected to the local community:
I.M.P. has been running shows in D.C. for 33 years, but its bailiwick is regional and national touring acts.
“The new vision for the theater represents the growing diversity of our city,” DCCAH executive director Lionell Thomas says in a news release.
