>> With a calling card like “Planet Rock,” Afrika Bambaataa‘s place in hip-hop history is cemented. The living legend will be performing a set at U Street Music Hall along with A. Skillz, Fort Knox Five, Nappy Riddem and Proxxy & Lantern. 8 p.m. $10.
Friday:
>> Continuing the trend of hip-hop legends performing in D.C. are The Furious 5. Best known for their classics “The Message” and “White Lines,” four of the original members (Melle Mel, Kid Creole, Scorpio and Rahiem) will performing at the Howard Theatre. 8 p.m. $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
>> The Moneytown party has hit the half-decade mark. To celebrate, DJ Nitekrawler will stick to the formula of funky, often forgotten, gems from the 1960s and 1970s. Joining him at Little Miss Whiskey’s for the night will be DJ Mikhail Z. 10 p.m. Free.
Saturday:
>> One of the area’s most enduring go-go bands, Trouble Funk, is celebrating its 35th year of existence. The Howard Theatre serves as the backdrop for the evening. 8 p.m. $22.50 in advance, $30 at the door.
>> The Reminisce party returns to Liv to celebrate all that was good about ’90s R&B and hip-hop. DJ Quartermaine will be providing the sounds. 9:30 p.m. Free until 11 p.m. with RSVP.
