Catch the fireworks and the NSO at DC’s biggest annual concert, A Capitol Fourth.
WEDNESDAY
It may be damp outside, but the holiday week is contributing to a drought of shows this week. Luckily, some worthy local acts are all in one place tonight at the Black Cat: Les Rhinoceros, Coetillion (Peter Tran of Hume) and Aaron Leitko (of Protect-U). Get your fix. $12, 8 p.m.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: Lionize, Isle of Rhodes, The Obsessives. $12, 8 p.m.
>> U Street Music Hall: Afrika Bambaataa and A Skillz with Pumpkin et al. $10, 8 p.m.
THURSDAY
It’s that time of year again…A Capitol Fourth is on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Head down to the National Mall to hear the National Symphony Orchestra try to be heard over the sound of colorful mortars. Or, watch from a roof somewhere and play the live PBS broadcast in the background. Darren Criss from Glee and Megan Hilty, the only saving grace of NBC’s now-defunct Smash, join the National Symphony Orchestra. Also on the bill: Barry Manilow, John Williams conducting his score from Lincoln, and Neil Diamond. Free, 8 p.m.
>> U Street Music Hall: LJ MTX, Shake Beats, RaceCarBed, et al. $5, 10 p.m.
>> Howard Theatre: Jano Band. $30, 10 p.m.
FRIDAY
Catch D.C. hardcore legend (and now Baltimore resident) HR (of Bad Brains and Human Rights) in his reincarnated reggae state at Tropicalia tonight with Machet. $10, 7 p.m.
>> U Street Music Hall: Charles Feelgood, Lovegrove, Sheila Storms, Buster and Ray Casil.
>> 9:30 Club: Brazilian Girls. $35, 8 p.m.
>> Black Cat: The Coolots, Dance for the Dying, Freeform Radio, et al. (Girls Rock! DC Benefit) $12, 8 p.m.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: Feelfree, The Relics, B Side Shuffle. $10, 8 p.m.
SATURDAY
Throw on your white robe and clap your hands: that ragtag group of cult-psych rockers who were doing it long before Edward Sharpe and his Magnetic Zeroes is at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue. The Polyphonic Spree performs, with Harper Simon opening. One of the original members was St. Vincent; perhaps you’ll catch another star in the making.
>> 9:30 Club: The Maine, A Rocket to the Moon, This Century, Brighten. $20, 7 p.m.
>> U Street Music Hall: Ame, Lxsx Frxnk, Hanik. $10, 10 p.m.
>> Howard Theatre: Trouble Funk.
SUNDAY
Cayucas. Obsessed doesn’t begin to cover it. These new Secretly Canadian signees are the band you’ve been waiting for all summer. If you’re not ready for the holiday weekend to end, keep the party going with these Vampire Weekend-esque rockers who will have you sloshing your Budweiser Lime-a-rita all over the floor. With Brazos and Midnight Faces. $10, 8 p.m.
>> Black Cat: Squarepusher. $25, 8 p.m.
>> Velvet Lounge: Satro, Blue Sky Deep, Golden Guns. $8, 9 p.m.
