Bryce Harper, fresh from a month-long stint on the disabled list, will be one of the National League’s starting outfielders at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game next week. Through the 51 games he’s played in so far, Harper is hitting for a .274 batting average, with 13 home runs and 29 runs batted in. He’ll join the St. Louis Cardinals’ Carlos Beltrán and the Colorado Rockies’ Carlos Gonzalez as baseball fans’ picks to start the game at Citi Field in New York.

Joining Harper from the Nationals’ roster will be Jordan Zimmermann, who has been the team’s sharpest starting pitcher and one of the best in all of baseball. In 18 starts, Zimmermann has amassed a 12-3 record and an earned run average of 2.57.

Manager Davey Johnson is also scheduled to make the trip to lend his gruff wisdom to San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy, who selected Zimmermann for the team, in running the National League squad.

But the Nats could send one more player to the Midsummer Classic if fans will it. Ian Desmond, who has been the team’s best hitter all season, is in the running for the “Final Vote” to determine the 35th spot on the roster. Desmond is hitting for a .281 average with 15 home runs and 49 runs batted in, leading the Nationals in all three categories.

Desmond is pitted against Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, and Giants outfielder Hunter Pence. Puig is an especially strong contender. Though he only made his major-league debut in early June, he arrived strongly, hitting for a .409 average and racking up eight home runs with 19 runs batted in.

Major League Baseball is counting votes through Thursday on its website and through Twitter, with any tweet that uses the hashtag “#DesiIn13” counting as a vote for Harper. And remember, it’s the All-Star Game, so you can vote as many times as you want. (Harper lost last year’s final vote, but eventually made it in after a roster spot opened up.)
