Julia Holter makes the musical equivalent of an antique shop. Her delicate voice is ethereal, floating atop arrangements that can veer from neoclassical to pure pop at any time. This fall, Holter will release her third album, Loud City Song. To celebrate she’s embarking on a short tour starting tomorrow at the Sixth and I Historic Synagogue. The record is her first created in an actual studio (her previous two records were recorded in her bedroom) and the budget increase is felt throughout. The album is a concept about Los Angeles and the song “In the Green Wild” is an exploration of the city. The jazzy upright bass backbones the track as Holter delivers one of her most traditional pop performances.

Julia Holter plays tomorrow night with Jessica Pratt at the Sixth and I Synagogue. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
