>> OkayAfrica hosts another installment of Azonto Fiesta. DJs Underdog, Native Sun and Kweks will be spinning the latest underground sounds from Africa at Tropicalia. $5, 9 p.m.

>> One of hip-hop’s first stars, Kurtis Blow, interjected D.C.’s own Trouble Funk into tracks like “If I Ruled The World” and “I’m Chillin.’ ” For his show at the Howard Theatre, he’ll be teaming up with another area go-go band of note, E.U., to perform some of his classics. $22.50-27.50, 8 p.m.
FRIDAY
>> First with Shalamar and then as a solo artist, Jody Watley has been a dance tune generator with tracks such as “Looking for a New Love” and “Real Love.” The singer’s three decades of music will be on display on the Howard Theatre‘s stage for the evening. $35-40, 8 p.m.
>> DJ Dredd, once again, hosts a dance party at the Black Cat filled with nothing but jams by Prince and Outkast. 9:30 p.m. $12.
>> San Francisco-based DJ and producer Miguel Migs returns to D.C. where he’ll once again be spinning a set of the lounge-inspired house music for which he’s known at U Street Music Hall. Free before 11 p.m. and 21+. $12 after 11 p.m.
>> The Summit has become known as good event to dance to deep, soulful house music. Creating the atmosphere at Tropicalia will be the DJ trio of Sam Burns, Jahsonic and Underdog. 10 p.m. $5.
>> Pete Rock and DJ Premier are two of the most iconic and prolific producers in hip-hop history. They’ll be at the Howard Theatre for “P vs. P,” an event that promises to be “a DJ battle for the ages.” $25-30, 11 p.m.

>> R&B artist Lyfe Jennings is slated to make up for a previously scheduled show at the Howard Theatre. $32.50-37, 8 p.m.
>> The band Violet Rocker calls the DMV home and carves its own niche as being a hybrid rock-influenced hip-hop band. They’ll have all their talents on display, along with those of Uptown XO, Gordon Brega and Awthentic, at Tropicalia. $10, 8 p.m.
