MUSIC: Loretta Lynn plays the 9:30 Club (815 V Street NW) with opener Sarah Haze this Friday. 8:00 p.m. $55.

DRIVE-IN MOVIE: Union Market’s (1309 5th Street NE) drive-in movie series continues with Jonathan Lynn’s The Distinguished Gentlemen. The screening is free and starts at 9 p.m.

JAZZ: Anyone who wants to know what D.C.’s jazz scene is all about absolutely needs to head to Twins Jazz on Friday or Saturday. Pianist Tim Whalen is leading a group that represents the best our city has to offer, including saxophonist Lyle Link, trumpeter Joe Herrera and others. The band will be paying tribute to the great Wayne Shorter. 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $15 plus food and drink minimum. —Sriram Gopal

COMEDY: Comedian Adam Friedland hosts Funny Moms, a showcase of local comedic talents, at The Wonderland Ballroom (1101 Kenyon Street NW) tonight, as opposed to its usual Wednesday date. 8 p.m. Free, but donations welcome.

FOOD & DRINK: Celebrate the 114th birthday of Ernest Hemingway with a special surf and turf entree, plus a featured cocktail menu, at Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar (801 9th St NW). From 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the restaurant will celebrate National Daiquiri Day with $5 Hemingway surf and turf bites.

FESTIVAL: The National Museum of the American Indian’s (Fourth Street and Independence Avenue SW) Living Earth Festival kicks off Friday morning and continues through this Sunday. Attend Saturday for a farmer’s market, goat cheese-making workshop, Hawaiian music and dance, a sculpting workshop, an Indian Summer Showcase Concert, and more. CHRISTENING: Jack Rose Dining Saloon (2007 18th Street NW) will be hosting a beer “shower” to christen the opening of Shmaltz Brewery’s new East Coast location. The event will feature a rooftop party, 18 different Shmaltz beers on draft, 6 cask or vintage bottle varieties, reuben and brisket sliders, and shower-themed games. MUSIC: Philadelphia’s Kurt Vile made his name with lo-fi recordings but since signing to Matador Records he has released three hi-fi folk rock records to much acclaim. BRAVO: If you’ve ever wished that a bar would play Bravo instead of ESPN, be sure to hit up Masa 14 (1825 14th Street), El Centro (1819 14th Street, NW), or Zengo (781 7th Street) on Wednesday. The three restaurants will be hosting Top Chef Masters viewing parties in honor of contestant and chef Richard Sandoval.
