Southern Problems is a D.C. three-piece that released their debut album, Space, last year. The members have known each other for a while, and their chemistry is what makes the band a dynamic, not-to-be-missed act.

While influenced by D.C.’s rich history of punk rock, the band excels at making melodic rock not unlike Ted Leo. Tonight Southern Problems headline Fort Reno, and hopefully the threat of rain will not wash the show out. “Jennifer,” a catchy highlight from Space, starts off bouncy then moves to the second section where things quiet down before the climactic refrain of “the crust is gonna come down/ We gotta get underground.”

Southern Problems play tonight with The Mauls at Fort Reno. As always it is free.
