Neil Fallon from Clutch with Justin Horenstein, Jimmy Rhodes and Ross Hurt of Black Clouds
TUESDAY
It’s a dad-rock renaissance at Merriweather Post Pavilion as the Americanarama tour rolls through town. Featuring Bob Dylan, Wilco, My Morning Jacket, and opener Ryan Bingham, this lineup is sure to lure lots of plaid-and-New Balance-clad dads into the woods for an evening of occasionally raucous, but mostly breezy folk and alt-country. $45-215, 4:30 p.m.
>> Black Cat: Smith Westerns, Wampire. $18, 8 p.m.
>> DC9: Möbius Strip, Friendbeast, Cane & The Sticks. $8, 8 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
After a nearly 2-year absence, garage-rock/post-hardcore group Railsplitter returns! With driving guitars, melodic hooks, and growling vocals reminiscent of Hot Water Music and Avail, the quartet’s one-and-only demo, released in 2010, proved that not all punk in This Town derives from Dischord. Might this be a sign that new music is on the way? Maybe. They play DC9 with garage-punks The Sniffs and Charlottesville’s The Invisible Hand. $8, 8 p.m.
>> Rock & Roll Hotel: Simone and the Spectrum, Cherry Tree. $10, 8 p.m.
THURSDAY
Remarkably, no Fort Reno shows have been rained out thus far. So, what’s your excuse for not making it out to the idyllic Tenleytown park to catch some free live music yet? That’s right, you have none. Go see The Buzz and Capital Ghost. Free, 7:15 p.m.
>> U Street Music Hall: Donavon Frankenreiter, Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R., Brian Russo. $25, 6:30 p.m.
FRIDAY
Combining pulsating dance grooves with the beeps and boops of a 1985 Super NES soundtrack, New York’s Anamanaguchi play infectious, effusively joyful electropop. They play Rock & Roll Hotel with rapper Kitty Pryde and DOSS. $12, 7 p.m.
>> Black Cat: Future Bible Heroes, Luxury Liners. $15, 9 p.m.
>> 9:30 Club: Loretta Lynn, Sarah Haze. $55, 7 p.m.
SATURDAY
Doomy instrumental post-rock trio Black Clouds headlines a particularly inspired lineup of some of D.C.’s best bands at the 9:30 Club. Shark Week, Warchild, Typefighter, True Head, and Highway Cross also share the bill. Seriously, I doubt you’ll find a better showcase of some of the best local bands on one bill. $15, 6 p.m.
>> Black Cat: Wild Nothing, UME. $15, 9 p.m.
SUNDAY
New wave legends New Order grace Merriweather Post Pavilion with Holy Ghost! and Whitney Fierce. You should probably go considering all the times you’ve drunkenly sang “Temptation” at karaoke. Also because Power, Corruption, and Lies has held up way better than anyone expected it to. $40-75, 5:30 p.m.
