Let’s face it: 2013 has been a year that most D.C. United fans would like to see wiped from the space-time continuum. With the team boasting Major League Soccer’s worst record, at 2-14-4, it’s probably fair to call this season a wash.
But it’s not all bad. Today two United players turned in performances we can be proud of—in a commercial for Continental Tires. The 30-second spot, which was filmed in May, features Dwayne De Rosario and Chris Pontius being chauffeured around by a soccer mom, who stops to pick up Dax McCarty and Heath Pearce of the New York Red Bulls.
Perhaps prescient of how the season would unfold, the commercial puts McCarty and Pearce, of the 9-7-5 Red Bulls, in the middle row of the soccer mom’s car, with DeRo and Pontius stuck in the back.
Still, Pontius shows good timing in pelting McCarty’s head with a soccer ball. Frankly, it’s the best performance—in any venue—D.C. United has turned in all year.
