Car2Go, the car-sharing service known for its blue-and-white Smart vehicles, now has 26,000 members in the D.C.
As Urban Turf reported, the company will add 100 cars to its current fleet of 300 to deal with growing demand. This is welcome news to anyone who has tried to find a car on a 98 degree day in a popular neighborhood like Eastern Market, but has come up empty. (Ahem.) Car2Go has added 18,000 members in the city since September 2012, but has yet to add cars.
Car2Go, which has fleets in over 20 international cities, requires members to pay a one-time $35 fee. Trips costs $.38 per minute, although the maximum hourly charge is $13.99. Vehicles can be left anywhere inside the city’s “home area.”
