Watch out, Eastern Market! Photo by Ted Eytan.
How much hipsterness can D.C. handle? We’ll find out this September, when Brooklyn Flea brings its cool-kid operation to D.C.
Founders Jonathan Butler and Eric Demby told the Post they plan to operate District Flea out of a vacant lot at 945 Florida Avenue NW, near the 9:30 Club. The market will run for six Saturdays, starting on Sept. 14. Yes, that means one of the District Flea days will coincide with the first day of Crafty Bastards. It’s like a hipster Sophie’s Choice.
Although District Flea is still two months out from its debut, it already has a website with a very excited announcement:
Hello D.C.! The District Flea is very excited to announce its opening this fall in the U Street Corridor. A collaboration between local vendors and the people that started the Brooklyn Flea, our market will feature antique and repurposed furniture, vintage clothing, collectibles and antiques, as well as a tightly curated selection of jewelry, art, and crafts by artisans from in and around D.C., New York, Baltimore, and Philly. And of course, delicious fresh food!
D.C. is already home to a flea market at Eastern Market and the Georgetown Flea Market, both held on Sundays, as well as the monthly DCMEETMarket in Logan Circle. But there’s always room for one more place young people can spend their expendable income here in boomtown.
