It’s August, the city is emptying, and the people yearn for fresh ideas. Down at Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken in downtown D.C., there’s a new delicacy that should put even 2013’s most zeitgeist-y dessert trend to shame.
Who needs to be envious of New York City’s cronuts when Astro will serve up a doughnut sliced in half and filled with ice cream? For the duration of this week, Astro, located at 1308 G Street NW, will be serving up doughnut ice cream sandwiches in two varieties. The first style, pictured above, features mocha java ice cream—made with Brooklyn Roasters coffee—scooped between the halves of a chocolate pastry ring. The other wedges raspberry verbena ice cream inside a passion fruit doughnut.
Both ridiculous desserts are available for $5.25 each, and will be dished out following the afternoon lunch rush. So, go now, damn it!
