The Nationals lost to the Braves last night. This, sadly, is no longer headline-grabbing news. Instead, the loss was overshadowed by Braves pitcher Julio Teheran beaning Bryce Harper and Harper’s understandably strong reaction to said beaning.
In the fifth inning, Teheran threw a 94-mile per hour fastball at Harper’s right thigh. The move was apparently in response to Harper admiring a home run he hit during the third inning. Harper was visibly displeased with being whacked in the thigh by a fastball, as were his teammates, who cleared the bench.

While the players did not come to blows on the field, the teams’ Twitter accounts exchanged fire. The Braves tweeted, “Clown move bro,” to which the Nats responded, “Which part, giving up the home run, or drilling the 20-year-old on the first pitch his next time up?” The Nationals’ tweet has since been deleted.

After the game, Harper seemed pretty understanding about the whole event: “It’s part of the game and it’s something I guess he’s got to do.” Teheran, for his part, denied he intentionally hit Harper.
