Do you have room in your home for an adorable reject? Because Georgetown’s fired bulldog mascot Jack Jr. is looking for a new home.
As In the Capital reported this morning, J.J.’s caretaker, Father Christopher Steck, tweeted this morning that he is visiting prospective homes for the young bulldog to go to now that he’s been expelled from Georgetown. Steck included a list of “ideals, not requirements”:
1) a home with experience raising disciplined, well-behaved dogs.
2) local residence, so that I can see the home and help get JJ acclimated over a couple of trips (i.e., one short visit, one longer visit, then permanent transition)
3) a fenced-in backyard
4) multiple adults living at home, and/or at least one regularly/often at home
5) stability
6) either no dogs, or a dog that has been shown to work well with JJ
7) if children, would need to discussThis will not be my decision alone. I will consult with Janice Hochstetler, the original ‘mother’ of JJ.
Number seven is particularly relevant. As the Hoya reported, J.J. was at the center of a settlement to two parents whose child was bitten by the dog:
A settlement reached with two parents whose child was bitten by Jack Jr. last fall was a factor in the decision to remove the former mascot-in-training from campus.
The child sustained non-critical injuries after the incident. Georgetown’s Vice President and General Counsel Lisa Brown directed all requests for comment to the Office of Communications, and Director of Media Relations Rachel Pugh confirmed that the couple reached a settlement with the university and that a lawsuit was never filed.
The Hoya notes that J.J. has kept his teeth to himself since the incident. Interested parties are asked to email cws@georgetown.edu.
