A D.C. single father of eight who needs a new home is getting a unexpected boost from a famous name.
WJLA presented the story of Stanley Young, an unemployed construction worker whose home above a store in Northwest D.C. was ruined by a fire. The mother of Young’s seven children passed away last year, so now he raising the kids on his own. The Young family is currently living at a hotel in Northeast D.C. and has until August 13 to find a new home.
While WJLA reports that Young is receiving help from his church and the Red Cross, the rapper Nas has also stepped in to raise money for the family.
“I was moved by the sad story of Stanley Young – father of 7 now homeless,” Nas, whose full name is Nasir Jones, tweeted today. “Help me give his family a miracle.”
He linked to a Crowdtilt fundraising page he started for the Young family. Just over $9,000 of a $20,000 goal has been raised. Nas was the first to contribute.

It’s unclear how Nas will get the money to the Young family. Request for comment from the rapper’s management has not been returned.
Update: Nas’s manager reached out to DCist to object to our saying that we were unclear how the money would be distributed. A plan is in place.
“Team Nas and Stanley Young are in direct communication,” his manager Anthony Saleh said. “Stanley is trying to figure out what kind of home he wants to get and the money will go to whatever housing he needs.”
More details will be revealed in the coming day.
