There’s no blurred lines about it: Virgin Mobile FreeFest is officially sold “free’d out.”
As it has every year since it became a free event, all 50,000 of this year’s FreeFest tickets were, as I.M.P. publicist Audrey Fix Schafer tells us in an email, gone in a matter of “seconds. Under a minute.” This is the fifth year in a row that FreeFest has “free’d out,” thus confirming that, yes, the best things in life are in fact free.
But it wasn’t all smiles for many hopeful FreeFest attendees who patiently sat at their computers for hours, waiting for tickets. Many got shut out:
FreeFest seems to have uniformly placed Fugazi’s Waiting Room in everyone’s head

Why am I still in waiting room if all tickets are gone? #confused #freefest @virginmobileusa

Still wandering through #freefest waiting room hell. @virginmobileusa.

And on the 6th day Satan created the Freefest waiting room

I’m going to go to lunch and when I come back maybe I’ll be out of the #freefest waiting room or whatever?

.@theresamgrosse and I likened the Freefest presale tickets to Dante’s Inferno or a Fugazi song. #dontleavemetoremaininthewaitingroom

And if you didn’t manage to snag a free pass to see Robin Thicke, Vampire Weekend, The Avett Brothers, Pretty Lights, MGMT, and more, fear not! You can still snag a FreeFest ‘Freemium’ Package for the very not-free price of $49.50. That package includes a general admission ticket and a $10 donation to RE*Generation, Virgin Mobile’s youth homeless charity. The whole thing goes down September 21 at Merriweather Post Pavilion.
In the meantime, enjoy this bubbly new tune from The Avett Brothers.
