EATING CONTEST: Star and Shamrock (1341 H Street NE) is hosting its 1st Annual Matzo Ball Eating Contest tonight. Wash those dumplings down with Shmaltz Brewing beers, which have taken over the taps at Star and Shamrock for DC Beer Week. 8-10 p.m.

BEER: Take part in one of the many D.C. Beer Week events going on this evening. Gordon Biersch (900 F Street NW) is hosting an English Summer Ale Tasting, where for $15 from 6-10 p.m. you get a commemorative glass and the chance to sample nine summer ales from local breweries including Gordon Biersch, DC Brau, 3 Stars Brewing Company, District ChopHouse and Brewery, Mad Fox Brewing, Capitol City Brewing Company, and Rock Bottom. Meanwhile, Farmers Fishers Bakers (3000 K Street NW) is serving up a five-course tasting dinner featuring beers from Devils Backbone Brewing, Flying Dog Brewery, and 3 Stars Brewing Company paired with small dishes (7-10 p.m., $74).

MUSIC: Joyce Manor, Glocca Morra, and Holy Death play the Black Cat Backstage (1811 14th Street NW) this evening. 8 p.m. $12.

Silver Spring, MD) Totally Awesome 7: Great Films of the 1980s series presents two classics tonight: The Outsiders at 5:15 p.m. and The Navigator: A Medieval Odyssey at 10 p.m. $9-$12.
